If Friday at Jerez was the start of a victory parade for Valentino Rossi, Le Mans is more of a narrow path on which it's easy to put a foot wrong and slip. The Doctor can't be happy with today's 10th place, especially when it is Lorenzo who leads the way, and another M1 (that of Pol Espargarò) in fourth.
“The morning session already didn't go well, but I struggled particularly in the afternoon - he comments - We had some ideas about set-up that didn't go to badly but not too well either”.
You weren't able to solve the problems?
“We wanted to improve braking and corner entry but I didn't find anything I liked. Then we also lost time with an incorrectly balanced front tyre”.
Were you at least able to test the new rear?
“No, I didn't have time. At the start, I focused on the harder solution, thinking it could be the right one for the race, but it didn't have traction. With the soft I did better, but I'm still far from the fastest guys”.
Could things improve with the new tyre?
“Those who've used it have gone faster so I could be closer but not close enough to fight for the front positions”.
Your bike seemed to be moving a lot…
“Some extra movement is normal with the Michelins, but it was me who wasn't sorted. Especially at the first corner where I'm losing a lot”.
What do you need to do?
“Find a new path, right now I'm quite slow and don't have great pace. I think that tomorrow morning will be our last chance to understand whether I can get closer, it will be a crucial session”.
A last resort?
“Yes, if I can make a step forward, it will all be easier, otherwise things will be difficult”.
