Marc Marquez has matured, we've seen this during the last race and also in how he's dealing with the Le Mans GP. He knew he'd suffer in France is managing the situation in the best way, without overdoing it. 3rd place today isn't a negative results, but it's not enough for him.
“What we expected to happen has happened, in that we suffer in acceleration and in the first and third sectors of the track - he explains - We need to make the most of our strengths, because right now this is the track where I'm doing the worst. The new Michelin tyre is better, but there's not a great difference”.
What does this mean?
“That if were to race today I couldn't fight for the win and would have to battle to reach the podium”, he admits.
Marc has ridden the Honda with triple wings but is not too convinced.
“They don't work perfectly - he explains - Perhaps there's some advantage in terms of acceleration, but at the same time it makes the bike harder to get into the turns and in the changes of direction".
Dani Pedrosa on the other hand did without the wings, which he doesn't like. In fact, he'd like them abolished.
“I don't like them, but I'm saying they should be removed mainly for safety reasons. With the Safety Commission we're working hard to improve the tracks, the various protection and then we put this kind of knife on the bikes. It doesn't make much sense”, he states.
Changing the subject, Dani started out well this morning, closing at the front of the pack, but then suffered more in the afternoon.
“I tried different things to improve the bike set-up but they didn't bring the results we wanted and this meant I took a step backwards in terms of pace”, he admits.
It did seem to be his best start of the year so far though.
“I'll reply tomorrow, after qualifying - he jokes - but for now it's like that”.
