MotoGP, Lorenzo has Pedrosa in his sights at Le Mans

In Spain the Yamaha rider reached 100, now just one podium separates him from his fellow countryman

Lorenzo has Pedrosa in his sights at Le Mans

It's just a short hop from Spain to France. The Le Mans track will host the fifth world championship round, where Valentino Rossi arrives fresh from the victory of two weeks ago at Jerez. The Italian dominated the race from start to finish, having also scored pole. His win on Spanish soil makes Rossi the ninth oldest rider to win a Grand Prix race, at the age of 37 years and 68 days. The overall leader is still Fergus Anderson who, at 44, won the 1953 Spanish Grand Prix at the Montjuïc track.

The Jerez race saw Rossi, Lorenzo and Marquez back together in the top three, something that hadn't happened since last August at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno. Despite having missed out on the win, Lorenzo was able to console himself with his 100th career podium. Just one now separates him from fellow countryman Daniel Pedrosa, while Rossi leads with a total of 177.

Aside from Rossi, the last round also crowned Brad Binder. The KTM rider, as well as scoring his first ever world championship win, is also the only South African to have ever won in the class. His country had to wait 35 years to see one of its riders on the top step of the rostrum, the last having been Jon Ekerold in 1981 at Monza.
