SBK, Guintoli: Competitive in Superpole, now also in the race

The Yamaha rider wants to close the gap to Kawasaki and Ducati in Assen

Guintoli: Competitive in Superpole, now also in the race

The start of the year has been an uphill climb but we musn't forget it is their first year back. While Yamaha has so far struggled to keep pace with its rivals during the race, it has performed in terms of the flying  lap, as demonstrated during the Superpole at Aragon.

Now it's time for the fourth round of the season at Assen. A track that Sylvain Guintoli knows well, having reached the top step of the rostrum on two occasions, most recently in 2014, the season that saw him crowned champion with Aprilia.

The Frenchman is well aware of the progress being made: “In Spain we took a step forward - analysed the rider – especially in the Superpole, where I qualified second on the grid. In Race 1 I was able to stick with the leading group during the first part  – he continues - lap times were great”. For Guintoli Holland will be an important test bench in terms of tyres: “Tyre constancy and management is our priority at Assen – he concludes – this is a track with which I'm comfortable and previous results prove this”.

On the other side of the garage, Alex Lowes trusts in the characteristics of the Dutch track, where, two years ago, he finished second on the Suzuki: “Assen is definitely a fun track - he states – I'm confident because it suits the bike and so we can aim for an important result”.

The Englishman highlights recent work carried out by the team: “We've taken big steps forward and I hope for a positive weekend in which we can fight with the leading group”.
