A surprise is always quite welcome and even someone as reserved and private as Casey Stoner was very appreciative: at Nolan headquarters near Bergamo, a press conference called by the company and Alberto Vergani, the historic manager of the prestigious Italian helmet brand, greeted the Australian testimonial and presented the new product that will go into production in 2017, the new X-802RR Ultra Carbon.
Quality, innovation and courage: these are the ingredients of this “exercise in style” which, as its predecessors, promises to be a sure success. Vergani himself, who presented the new arrival, the helmet, and the returning guest, the rider, explained how his company is booming: “Our numbers are positive. Compared to last year our turnover is up 12%. Our best market is Germany, followed by Italy. We are present in 80 countries worldwide and we are on new roads such as Mexico. What sets us apart from our foreign competitors is our attention to the quality of the materials and the way we follow riders in the competitions.”
The competitions, the favourite place for Nolan who, with the new X802RR, declares war on the rivals and which Vergani himself described in a few words: “This helmet is almost entirely carbon, a noble, costly, lightweight and malleable material, in addition to composite materials. The difficult thing to achieve was the painting, not an easy thing to carry out on this type of surface. In addition to the record time it took us to make it, this is a true prototype from which production for 2017 will stem.”
Stoner liked this fantastic gift very much, a rider who has always raced with the company from Lombardy and who has remained faithful even to the present. This loyalty was sealed by a stunning three-coloured Italian version that maintained the Australian graphics on the helmets he has used until now: “You can feel the quality of this helmet on the track, where you feel more comfort, excellent ventilation and no abrasions are left on your face. MotoGP bikes demand a lot of neck and head movement, but with this helmet I have never had cervical problems or excessive sweating” said a smiling Stoner, who then added: “I would like to thank Nolan and X-Lite for everything they have done for me up to now and I can't wait to try the new X802RR on the track.”
With its X-Lite emanation, Nolan invests heavily in riders and racing in the field, so it has been the riders themselves who have established the success of their products, as Vergani recounts: “Casey has always been happy with our helmets, so much that he has remained loyal up to the present. This deserves a gift, not only for his success in racing, but also for how highly he has spoken of our products: Chaz Davies and Leon Camier are just a couple of examples who join our list of historic testimonials, such as Carlo Checa and Marco Melandri. On our team we have Danny Kent in Moto2, Enea Bastianini in Moto3, Danilo Petrucci in MotoGP for a total of 36 riders and we have other requests from guys who would like to join us.”
When asked to name some prominent names, Vergani replied: “I can tell you that Camier decided to join us after trying our helmet, independently of the economic issue. And when Jorge Lorenzo had problems with his helmet last year, he wanted one of ours. It was a done deal, but his lawyer stopped him to avoid a lawsuit with his current supplier.”
These are satisfactions and this new prototype model will be the base for the 2017 production range, which will offer the same technical concepts of reliability, versatility and comfort, in addition to the prestigious materials used to make it. Why was Stoner selected to be the testimonial for this X802RR One Off edition? For his charisma, for his success on the track and, as Vergani commented: “Because he is an anti-conformist, he is real, he is pure, he is loyal: Casey is different.”
