HISTORY

GPone.com was conceived by Paolo Scalera, an "historic" MotoGP journalist, long time correspondent of Motosprint, and now reporter for Corriere dello Sport, in the autumn of 1999.

The idea was to share the passion of motorcycling, and Grand Prix racing in particular, with users of the internet, by way of a website that was easy to use, timely, accurate and extremely competent.

An agreement reached first with Dorna, and then Infront Motor Sports, allowed GPone.com to use the logos of the two companies granted the television rights from the FIM.

For this reason, from the start, GPone.com was the only site publishing, almost in real time, the official MotoGP timing and results.

THE JOURNALISTS

After a long initial phase in which the staff consisted of a group of passionate volunteers, the site saw the near simultaneous addition of Alberto Cani and Nereo Balanzin to cover MotoGP, and Claudio Porrozzi for Superbike.

Around this same time the versatile Luca Bologna was also added to the team, a man capable of going from a new bike test on track, to reporting from a MotoGP track, to editing the videos which populate the Youtube page of famous journalist Ernesto Emmi.

GPone.com also began to grow abroad, thanks to its friendly relationships with Dean Adams, driving force behind American site Superbikeplanet.com, David Emmet, creator of Motomatters.com, and Irishman John O'Line. Also fundamental was the help of extremely well informed Austrian journalist Gunther Wiesinger, the man behind SpeedWeek.ch.

The idea for the audio clips came from Nanni Scaglia, while Aldo Gandolfo also contributes to the videos.

More recently Alice Margaria, aka Alice Brum-Brum, joined the team, and, last but not least, New Yorker Sean Sedacca arrived to manage the English translations.
