Fonsi Nieto briefly suffered respiratory failure on Sunday night, in Indianapolis, while staying at Methodist Hospital. The Spanish rider was under anesthesia following surgery, as a result of his ankle and heel fractures suffered during qualifying, when he stopped breathing for 40 seconds. This was the time it took for a medical team to stabilize him and revive him. The incident was apparently caused by an adverse reaction to the anesthetic. He underwent a second surgery yesterday to further repair the injury. He is expected to return to Spain later in the week.
