Goodbye, Shoya

Sunday, 05 September 2010 14:41 by Ernesto Emmi

Shoya Tomizawa was killed in today's Moto2 race at Misano. He was badly injured on lap 12, while running in fourth place ahead of De Angelis and Redding.

The Japanese rider lost his life competing in the sport that he loved, fighting for the lead of the race, he who won the first ever Moto2 meeting, in Qatar.

Shoya, besides being a great rider, was an extremely friendly young man, who would always come to the press room to joke with his Japanese photographer friends between sessions.  He was always smiling and always ready with a quick joke, in nearly every language.

In a famous incident with Italian journalists, Tommy was asked if he knew any Italian words? “Yes... Coca Cola”, was his reply, giving everyone a good laugh.

Tomizawa succumbed to head, abdominal and thorax injuries.

Addio Shoya, we will miss you.
