Melandri-BMW: the deal is nearly done

Most of the seats in MotoGP are either taken or accounted for, but there is still plenty of space in WSBK, and several decisions left to be made. Even Max Biaggi has yet to officially sign a contract.
One of the most desirable rides available, aside from the Aprilia, is the second factory BMW slot, left open by the exit of Ruben Xaus.
A seat that is 99% likely to be taken by Marco Melandri.
He won't admit exactly where they are in negotiations, but team manager Davide Tardozzi has made clear his feeling and intentions regarding the deal.
“We don't have the signature, and that is the most important part – Davide Tardozzi explained – but I received a very positive impression from Melandri. We never talked about money, only about how competitive we would be. Marco wants to win and show that he is still a top rider, and I think this is the right philosophy for Superbike."
A move by Melandri to Superbike would be greeted with great enthusiasm in Italy. The production based series, after the success of Biaggi, could use an Italian antagonist, and Melandri fits the role well.
"If Melandri want's to trade paint, this is the right place to be," Max Biaggi said in a recent interview
