After the disappointments of Qatar, Franco Morbidelli is prepared to turn the page and immediately write a new chapter of this 2021 season. Portimao could therefore be the right opportunity, since last year the Petronas rider was the fastest among the M1s, so much so that he reached the podium.

Franco therefore has full confidence in himself in view of the third round of this season, where he needs to send a clear signal after the successes of Vinales and Quartararo.

“We are starting from a blank sheet of paper here in Portimao, without being discouraged by what happened in Losail - Franco began - here in Portugal there will be some small changes on the bike, even if the base is more or less the same as two weeks ago”.

Confidence is the basis of how to face this weekend…

“For sure my motivation remains the same, since it does not depend on the results of my rivals, but on mine. I am aware of my position in Yamaha, and I accept it, since I have no other alternatives, so one of my motivations is to earn better conditions, without having to beat riders of the same brand. This will certainly be an important weekend and I face it with the awareness of always”.

Attention then turns to what happened in Qatar. Apparently there was a human error inside the garage, plus Yamaha sent all the pieces back to Japan.

“I got all the answers I wanted from Yamaha, both after Qatar and once I got here. I am therefore happy with the countermeasures the team has taken, as they make sense. I cannot say any more, this out of respect for the contractual limits and the other riders”.

Now all that remains is to get on the bike and kick off the race weekend.

"This weekend we face it with the awareness that last time we were really strong in Portugal. I don't want to use the term hope, because it gives me a sense of desperation, so I want to be confident after what I did in 2020 on my M1. Unfortunately in Qatar the two races did not go as I hoped, but I have prepared in the best way for this weekend, with the aim of being able to fight with the best. "
