MotoGP, Pernat: "Rossi had led me to dream, now he has to ask some questions"

AUDIO - "Vinales was able to manage the tires more than the bike. Not a great race for Ducati, Bagnaia wanted to win. Aprilia deserved minimum pass mark"

MotoGP: Pernat:

The chequered flag has come down on the first Grand Prix of the season and it is time to take stock. To do this, as always, we rely on the wandering eye of Carlo Pernat who, as always, observed the entire weekend of the race from the pit wall. Below you can read what he thinks, or below you can listen to his comments.

"Vinales was able to manage the tires more than the bike"

"We found MotoGP as we left it: it is always a question of tires. Michelin has improved but for the riders it is now a matter of adapting to the tires. Vinales was very good, he surprised us all. He managed not to wear out the rear tire for half the race and in the end he found himself in a position to manage the tires better than the bike ”.

"Ducati half happy: Bagnaia wanted to win"

“It wasn't a great day for Ducati even if it put two riders on the podium, it's not a throw-away result but expectations were different: to win. We found that Miller was unable to manage the tires, he finished ahead of Bastianini just by a bit, while the surprise was Zarco because the confidence that Dall’Igna and Pramac have in him put him in a position to ride this bike well. Bagnaia is happy, but after such a weekend he expected to win and he would have deserved it too ”.

"Rossi must start asking questions"

"The two factory Yamahas went quite well, but Valentino had led me to dream in qualifying, while in the race there was the usual problem. He has to start asking questions, even if we are still waiting for some more races to understand better. Too bad for Morbidelli who had a problem with the rear shock absorber throughout the race, that is certainly not his position. He mustn’t give up because he went very well ”.

“Honda misses Marquez, I have my doubts about Pol Espargarò. Suzuki promoted "

“I would say it was a Honda defeat, but we expected it because it has always had problems on this track, Marc has only won once. It also has some problems with the riders: Alex Marquez and Nakagami crashed and Bradl finished behind. From Pol Espargarò something more was expected and I don't know if it was a good choice, I have my doubts. Suzuki did very well, but suffered from the crazy speed of the Ducatis: overtaking Mir at the line was embarrassing. But both Joan and Mir rode very well ”.

"For Bastianini, 10th place in his first race is a dream"

“As for the rookies, Bastianini had a great race, a pity only about the start but he made a great comeback and finishing in the top 10 is a dream come true. Martin is very strong, but he rides the Ducati too aggressively and the tire problems increase, he still has to adapt. Marini will arrive calmly, he wasn't bad ”.

"Aleix Espargarò was smart, KTM has too many problems"

"The Aprilia did not go badly, Aleix Espargarò this time was smart enough to bring the bike to the finish, it was necessary. A deserved minimum pass mark for the Noale bike. For KTM a lot of problems, too many. Losing the concessions means doing fewer tests and perhaps there is also a rider problem: in my opinion it is difficult with Oliveira and Binder, they are missing a lead rider. Petrucci is making an exaggerated effort to adapt to this bike, let’s hope for the best. As for Lecuona, I would sack whoever signed him, it is like throwing away a motorcycle ”.

"Giannantonio was a surprise, Antonelli good "

“In Moto2 the real surprise was Di Giannantonio, the World Championship is being fought between Bezzecchi and Lowes, who in my opinion is the favourite. In Moto3 I was impressed by Guevara, Acosta and Masia, the KTMs in Losail go faster. We Italians can focus on Foggia, on a strong Fenati who could have won without the Long Lap, on Migno who can easily be in amongst those positions and on Antonelli who did well in the first race in a new team ”.
