MotoGP, Valentino Rossi: “In Qatar, I’ll be able to be in the group of the best.”

The great moment is fast approaching. On Friday, Valentino Rossi and Franco Morbidelli will take to the track in the FP1 of the Qatar GP with the same colors, those of the Petronas team. After many years on the factory team, a new chapter in the Doctor’s career begins with the Malaysian team but, of course, still on his Yamaha.

The tests in Qatar for Rossi did not start in the best way, but he was then able to be competitive and find better sensations on the M1. But the litmus test will only take place on Sunday evening, when they’ll wave the checkered flag on the Losail track.

“After testing in Qatar, I feel strong enough, and the balance of the bike is good,” Valentino said.  “I did my best lap ever on the circuit, which was an important and positive thing. I think there are a lot of strong riders on different bikes, but I’m definitely in the group with them.”

The Doctor is ready: “My race pace looks good, so I feel like I’m ready to start the season in Qatar this weekend. There’s a really good feeling in the team. We’ve worked well and in the right direction. I’m excited to start the season off well in a few days.”

Morbidelli: “We have a really good foundation, the podium is within my reach"

Franco Morbidelli conosce bene la squadra con cui lo scorso anno ha vinto 3 gare ed è arrivato 2° in campionato. Il 2021 sarà un anno chiave per lui perché, levatisi i panni dell’outsider, partirà fra i favoriti. Con l’unica incognita di guidare una moto meno evoluta delle altre Yamaha.

“Penso che siamo pronti per la prima gara della stagione - dice - Abbiamo lavorato molto nei test, abbiamo provato diverse cose e poi ci siamo concentrati sulla messa a punto della moto per la pista del Qatar. Il setup non è mai perfetto, si possono sempre trovare cose da cambiare e migliorare, ma penso che abbiamo una base davvero buona. Per fare una buona gara devi essere veloce, avere un buon ritmo, essere costante e capire qual è la gomma giusta. È difficile sapere dai test quale dovrebbe essere l'obiettivo, ma voglio puntare ad essere ni primi 5 e a lottare per il podio, penso che sia possibile. Vedrò dove sarò domenica”.
