The first MotoGP test session in Qatar ended last night, now there will be a two-day break and then the riders will again be back on track in Losail from Wednesday to Friday for the final tests before the race. Carlo Pernat closely followed everything from the track and he kindly answered the questions of GPOne readers in a live broadcast that you can see in full above.
Even if these are only first impressions, the Italian manager began to have some clear ideas about what the values on the track are.
“At Honda the team leader is Bradl, he was faster than everyone else by half a second and therefore the leadership is his - Pernat said - Pol Espargarò has the excuse of being on his first time on the RC231V, but Alex Marquez and Nakagami don’t. For sure the other manufacturers will no longer be able to accept that Stefan does tests and races, however, it is as if it had concessions. A real mess is going to come out of this”.
Then Pernat moved on to the other teams.
“Continuing with the team leader game, in Yamaha there are two: Quartararo and Morbidelli, more Franco than Fabio- he stated - In Ducati it's Miller, with Bagnaia closer, Jack seems ready to compete for the World Championship. In KTM the battle for leadership is between Oliveira and Binder ”.
Rossi, on the other hand, did not convince him…
"Valentino was not playing hideaway, it won’t be an easy year for him – was his opinion - It did not go very well, to put it mildly, while Morbidelli and Quartararo did well. He is having some difficulties, for sure he will settle down in the next tests, but I have my doubts that he will be able to get in front of another Yamaha rider ”.
He also had some doubts about Zarco…
"I have to admit that Zarco last year, even if he didn't do anything exceptional, showed that he deserves his place in Pramac. But Miller is more on the ball and stronger than Johann and also Bagnaia, if he sorts everything out ”.
The surprise of these tests was Aprilia…
“The next few days of testing will be important to see the pace and I think Aprilia will focus on this, but hats off to them because they are up there. Clearly they have to do a lot of tests and they have to get a test rider, this is the key,” he warned.
Pernat had been the first to mention Dovi as a candidate in this role…
"Dovizioso and Aprilia are talking to each other, after these results, if they put a two-year contract on the plate with the option to race in 2022 and a bit of money Andrea might also accept - said Carlo - Why not? It would be the right time, since the bike was born well. Dovi is one of the few guys able to do that job and the results of these tests could help convince him ”.
