It’s the Petronas team’s week with the presentation of its new colors and an unprecedented duo, formed by Valentino Rossi and Franco Morbidelli. Watch the Doctor being interviewed on the team’s official channels.

It was a chance to reveal his inspirations and ambitions in view of a 2021 that probably risks being the crossroads of his career on two-wheels.

What do you think of your new bike with the Petronas colors?
I’m really happy to see my new bike for 2021. It’s a new experience for me, and I can’t wait for the first test and the start of the Championship in Qatar. The color has changed for me too. I really like the livery of the bike, the new suit, the gloves, the boots, and my new helmet. It’ll be a fantastic package. I say that were ready to start.”

What are your personal goals for 2021?
Being competitive, fighting to win races, fighting for podiums, and also fighting for a good position in the championship rankings and the end of the season. To this regard, we’re all very focused on our objectives to be able to do the best we can.

What does joining Yamaha Petronas mean to you?
I’m very proud to be part of this team, since this is a new challenge for me. The team is very young but, in the past two years, it has proved to be very competitive. The bike will remain the same, and I think it’ll be a fun season.”

What do you expect for this year with a companion like Morbidelli?
Franco and I are a very interesting duo. We have a good relationship.  We know each other very well. We always train and challenge on different bikes, and we’ll also do it inside the same garage this year.

How excited are you to get on the bike?
I have a long career and have already spent many years with Yamaha and the M1. I can’t wait to work together with the Yamaha engineers and the whole team to try to improve the performance of our bike.

After eight consecutive years in the Yamaha Factory Team, what changes and similarities do you expect for this 2021 with Petronas?
It’s a been long story with Yamaha, which began in 2004 and is divided into two parts. It’s almost a lifetime together! I don’t expect many differences because the bike is the same, and we’ll have full factory support. At the same time, it’s a new team, new people in the garage, new mechanics, consequently, a new experience for me too. The team is very motivated, and I’ll do my best to achieve the best possible result with them at the end of the season.”
