Fifteenth, half a second from the top. Pecco Bagnaia ended the first day of practice in Portimao far from the best, but a certain degree of confidence transpires from his face. Despite having to play catch-up, the Ducati rider worked mainly on his sensations, trying to find the right way forward for the weekend.
“In FP2 I enjoyed myself more, much more than in the morning - Pecco began - in the afternoon I found more grip and I managed to be consistently in the top ten. Unfortunately, on the last exit I didn't set a great time, even though I had a medium tyre. Compared to Zarco, however, I am in line throughout the track, even if in T4 I’m four tenths down. That's the difference. In the end, Portimao is a new track, there is a lot of work to be done, but the balance is positive, especially for my confidence. "
In view of the race, the fastest riders on the pace seem to be the Yamaha guys, Morbidelli and Vinales.
“The Yamaha is the fastest when it goes out, as it adapts well to various situations. With work, however, we too manage to get close to the best. This is not to say that the Yamaha is easy, but it allows you to harness your potential more easily. Franco worked well on the pace, as did Maverick, but we are fast too. The only unknown factor is the rear tyre, as we don't know how long it lasts, and they wear out quickly. I would say that on Saturday, we Ducati riders will have to team up for the tyre”.
In addition to MotoGP, Pecco also gave his opinion on the Moto2 world championship fight.
“You have to believe in it right until the very end. Marini got off to a good start this weekend and as long as there is a chance he has to push. Luca will have to go out on the track to win on Sunday, while Enea can afford to be more relaxed, given that in Moto2, there are not as many passes as in Moto3, where one corner is enough to find you drop from first to fifteenth ".
