“When something goes wrong I think about it for ten minutes, and then that's it, I go back to pushing with the same desire as before. I don't know if it's a fortune, but it is fundamental for those who do our job ”.
No tricks, no deceptions: Pecco will start from the third row. If nothing else, it is an acceptable result, and it certainly reverses the pains and problems the rider had seven days ago. For him it will be a completely different Valencia GP. “What has changed? We've had dry days. It's a track that suits my riding style well, we could be fast and we knew it. Last race we were going fast, then I ended on the ground. So nothing. But in my opinion we have a good pace. We are very close to Miller, who in my opinion is the fastest of all the Ducati riders”.
Nothing was easy in qualifying. Pecco knows that even tomorrow, in the race, he will have to keep a high, very high concentration if he wants to try to look to the future with even more ambition.
“We'll see, but it was tough in qualifying. Going around the track seeing the droplets on the helmet was not easy. But we did a good time. I had the medium tyre at the front which I’m not crazy about. Two or three times it closed in on me at the front because when I push I need more support. Conditions were critical and difficult. The race will be very difficult. We will have to be careful with the rear tyre, we are good at this. But we won't have to lose time at the start of the race, which instead has happened to me a bit. "
Pecco is also looking at the others, for example Morbidelli and what he can do in the world championship? Win it?
"It's tough, Mir has an advantage of a lot of points, it's quite tough. But in my opinion Franco has what it takes to win the race. The problem is that if Mir is third or fourth, everything is annulled, so nothing. Mir is fast, has a good pace. Not like Franco, who is the fastest of all. He will go strong at least to try. He can still finish in the top three ”.
But now Pecco has to think about himself, about his world championship.
"Obviously next year I will have more experience, I will try to do what Jack Miller does, start and get on the gas, it is something I will try to do here in Valencia, it is not that easy, but it is the only way to beat him before he stops. As for qualifying, today was not the hardest, because I fought a bit until the rain came, I tried to push from the start. In the second it was possible to do better, the only problem was using the medium tyres but I made two mistakes during the lap, I was very close to crashing. I did the best that was possible for me today. Tomorrow I will try to be aggressive in the early laps and very consistent until the end ”.
