Tito Rabat has no intention of giving up. After being dumped by the Avintia team for next year to make way for Luca Marini, the Spaniard has set out on the hunt for a MotoGP ride for next year. To be honest, there is only one left, it is the one he is aiming for, and he makes no secret of it.
"I'm looking around for 2021 and the most concrete option is with Aprilia - he announced - My manager is talking to them and for me it would be a dream because a manufacturer would be betting on me again in MotoGP. It would be a great opportunity, but there are other riders looking at that place too, so it won't be easy to get it. But I believe in this possibility and I know that I would have the level to fight on that bike ”.
It would be a great coup for Tito, who found himself left without a ride by the Avintia team at the last minute, even if this possibility had not been a mystery for several weeks.
"I talked to the team and I'm not happy with how it went - he said - But that's the way things are and we have to look forward, I want to continue doing what I like".
In other words, Rabat is not thinking about quitting…
“It is not easy to experience a situation like this first hand - he explained - I have fought since I was a child to get to MotoGP, I have succeeded but I do not think I have ever had the opportunities I deserved. I've always been in private teams, not satellites, because I've never had a direct contract with a manufacturer and in this situation it's difficult to do well in MotoGP ”.
Perhaps, however, all is not lost…
“It breaks my heart to think about not racing anymore - he said – On Sunday evening I went to bed destroyed at midnight, at 6 on Monday, without even setting the alarm, I was already up. I got on my bicycle and climbed a mountain. From a certain point of view now I feel even more motivated ”.
If he doesn't find a place in MotoGP he could think of returning to Moto2, being a test rider, or moving to SBK…
"For the moment I am not ruling out any possibility - he explained- The level in SBK is very high, but all the riders who have moved into that category, such as Biaggi or Bautista, have had the opportunity to go to a factory team. I think I have worked a lot over the years, like them, and I have shown my talent, especially in Moto2. So it would be an option, also because if I stayed at home I would end up climbing up walls" he laughed.
Tito then spoke about his friend and training partner Mir, who will have the opportunity to become world champion this Sunday.
"I think he and Marquez are two riders of another level, I had seen him training with them - he explained - In these days I have seen him very concentrated and down to earth, calm. What makes him special? If I told you it wouldn't be so special - he joked - Joan enjoys riding, it's something you can feel, and he has the ability to make the difficult things easy ”.
