SBK: A furious Laverty blames Gerloff for first corner BMW wipe-out

It just couldn't get worse than that. After setting pole position in the morning, Eugene Laverty was dreaming big at Magny-Cours. Instead his race ended after a few metres. The chaos triggered by Gerloff's Yamaha involved Sykes and Eugene's BMWs, both ending up out of the running.

“I don't really know what to say after what happened - Laverty said - two seconds before I hit the ground I knew it was going to happen. When I saw Gerloff enter turn one like that, I said to myself: what the hell is he doing? I tried to accelerate to avoid being hit by Tom, but it wasn't possible ”.

The disappointment on Eugene's face is evident…

“Gerloff can't say he followed his line, it's wrong. I started from pole and I knew very well what the line to follow was. He came into that 90° bend completely wrong, touching Tom, who then hit me. You can't overtake like that at the first corner, it's really stupid ”.

Laverty did not mince words on the matter...

"Besides triggering the accident, he didn't even apologize. I wonder why riders today no longer know how to apologize. It is not the first time that he has been involved in moves like that, I think that Garrett deserves a punishment, because if not the next time he’ll behave in the same way ”.

The only consolation was therefore the pole…

“This morning we found less water than usual in qualifying and the bike behaved really well, giving me the necessary confidence I needed. I have to say that the BMW has a good chassis, but we need to improve the power and the electronics and that's what I'll focus on. Too bad for the race, because after qualifying I was convinced I could have a good race, but it went differently ”.
