Barcelona is on paper a suitable track for the Yamahas and the first practice session seems to confirm this impression. Fabio Quartararo finished in front and all four M1s are in the first 8 places. A start that bodes well for the rest of the weekend.

Valentino Rossi was satisfied after his first exit of the morning, when he finished in eighth position.

“The first practice wasn't too bad. The track conditions here in Barcelona are very different from what we had in Misano, especially because the circuit provides a lot less grip. But the feeling at the beginning of this weekend is quite good. We have to work, for sure because the tyre drops a lot, but we are there.”

Maverick Vinales was also optimistic, for him 4th place in the morning.

“FP1 was quite good. I'm very happy about how the bike is working, because on the first run I could ride with a good rhythm. But we need to keep working, for sure. The track is in a difficult condition. I'm happy about how the bike was working on a really low-grip track. So, for FP2 we're going to concentrate on the race again, and we will try to work very hard.”
