The Yamaha also confirmed itself as the bike to beat in the first free practice session of the Andalusian GP, also in Jerez. After the 1-2 in the race last week, there was also one in today's inaugural session, but the surprise came from Valentino Rossi.

Vinales set the best time in the session, but the Doctor was close to him, less than a tenth and a half away, to earn 2nd. A clear step forward compared to his disastrous last weekend, but we will have to wait for confirmation in the heat of this afternoon.

"It was a good practice session because I was faster than last week - commented Rossi - We have changed something in the set-up of the bike and now I feel better. I improved my pace and the tyres work better too. In the end the time attack with the soft tyre was good. So it's a positive start and we must continue like this ”.

Vinales was also satisfied. His goal is to take that victory he just missed out on a few days ago and he seems to be on the right track.

“The first free practice session was very good! - Maverick did not hide his satisfaction - We did some things that we had not been able to try during the last race weekend and I felt an improvement, but still I’m keeping my feet firmly on the ground. I know we have to work even harder to do an even better race because we have really good potential. But the team is working well. I already set a great lap time in FP1, which is always very important, and I felt very strong. So, I'm very happy and excited to get back to work in the afternoon and see what we can do when the temperature goes up. "
