MotoGP, 'Top Secret' test for Marquez: "we focused on 2020"

A lot of work and few words, this is how we can sum up Marquez's test at Misano. His garage looked like a dealership, there were so many bike available to him. Specifically, four RC213V machines, starting with his current bike flanked by the 2020 prototypes. Essentially ‘hybrids’ with fairing parts in different colours, experiments with which to pave the way for next year.

“It was quite a full-on test because 2019 is coming to an end and 2020 is already beginning. First I worked in preparation for the final races and then I tested the material ahead of next season” explains Marquez, careful not to give too much away.

As is often the case, what's gone on at Misano is ‘top secret’ and Marquez must stick to this rule.

“I can't go into any detail. It was just a first point of contact with the new material but I was able to give precise feedback and we worked well, starting from our current base”.

With the title (almost) in its hands, Honda can focus on the future and Marc put on his test rider's hat, not even attempting a flying lap at the end of the session.

“It was important to understand certain things ahead of the next test at Valencia. We were able to understand a few things, despite Misano not being the ideal track for the engine. What are the goals? As always, to make the bike quicker and easier” he smiles.
