MotoGP, Lorenzo: "Returning now is right. It'll be the toughest GP of my career."

"I have problems with everything except acceleration. If I had postponed my return, I would've lost my reflexes and my muscles. I spoke to the team honestly: We are not here to win.'"

MotoGP: Lorenzo: "Returning now is right. It'll be the toughest GP of my career."

We all knew that the Silverstone weekend would have been difficult for Jorge Lorenzo, but seeing n.99 last at almost four seconds left many people were puzzled. However, Jorge was the least surprised of all. He's actually the one who explained how everything was normal, how miracles do not exist, and the road towards his  best physical shape is still a long way away, as long as the English track.

"The day was similar to my expectations. Certainly, it was a difficult day. It's never easy when you're last," he confessed. "But this is the current situation, and if I had exaggerated, I could have fallen and had unimaginable consequences. I still feel pain, especially after the sessions, and I've lost muscle mass. At the moment, my condition is not perfect for riding a MotoGP."

Lorenzo said he must take it easy and spoke of his recovery. "Like I said, riding a MotoGP is not really a walk in the park, and getting back among the positions that count is even less so."

.

"I have to be patient. In the Misano tests and, above all, for the race, I'll be better, and I'll be able to push harder, especially when braking, so that I can reach acceptable times. But I have to take it easy now. I have problems when braking and in center curve, since I lost a lot of muscle in my neck, and in changing direction when I move very slowly. The only thing I don't have problems in is acceleration."

With these words, some might wonder if it was a good idea to come back now and not later on. The rider from Mallorca seems convinced of his decision, which he explains clearly.

"I think this was the right race to come back to, since postponing it would have complicated my plans. Certainly, if I had waited longer, I would have recovered more easily, but I would have lost my reflexes and muscles, so I stand by my decision. According to some doctors, I would have already been able to race in Brno," he said. "But given the situation, and my improvement, I decided to come back now. I knew it would be difficult, since every time I increased the weights in the gym, I felt pain at night, and it'll probably be like that tonight too, but I couldn't wait any longer."

With regard to the day and to the time references, there's little to say, and Jorge admits how certain objectives are unattainable at the moment.

"Maybe I could have lowered my time and been second-to-last with a soft rear tire, but it wouldn't have mattered much. It will be practically impossible to pass the Q1 under these conditions, but we'll see how things will go. It's already difficult being ahead of everyone all the time, in these conditions even more. Tomorrow we'll try to do better, but keeping in mind that falling would be a problem."

Everyone is also thinking about the race, and the situation can only continue to be very complicated.

"It'll be the hardest race of my career. I wasn't very competitive even before the accident. I haven't been at my best after Aragon, so it's a combination of things, but this is the situation, and my injury doesn't allow me to do much more. I still don't know how it'll be. I felt more pain than before after the FP2. I have to manage my strength to be able to maintain a certain pace."

One of the few positive aspects of his return seems to have been the confrontation he had with his team, to clear up the rumors that have come up in the past few weeks.

"I haven't seen the team since Assen, so I wanted to speak to everyone honestly, and then move on. We're all aware that we're not here to win, get on the podium, or be in the top ten. The team knows this and, in fact, they only asked me to race and increase by confidence, lap by lap."

Jorge then gave us his opinion on the new, almost perfect, asphalt.

"I'd say that the asphalt is excellent. The only problem that I may have felt is in the last two corners, where there are holes and the bike moves a lot. But besides that, the track is good, and there's a lot of grip."
