MotoGP: Morbidelli: "I've discovered Fabio's secret by looking at the data"

The first day of the British MotoGP weekend is done and dusted and Franco Morbidelli can smile. #21 rounded out the day in seventh place overall, despite being a second behind his team-mate Quartararo: the Frenchman remains Franco's reference, the rider continuing to grow.

“We've identified our problems and are working on them – explains Franco - we know what we're missing but it doesn't seem easy to fix. The main problem is my confidence with the rear, which is not yet at the level of Fabio's. The bikes are the same and I've looked at his data - he enters the turns faster and has more confidence than me, he wheelies less during both acceleration and braking”.

Initial feedback on the track appears positive, but the Italian doesn't give too much away.

"We've improved over the course of the day, we still have room to grow but we're at a good point on this first day. I was quite fast and my pace is good too. Tomorrow's aim is to get through to Q2 and then fight for the positions that count”.

All on the brand-new Silverstone asphalt, which Franco is more than pleased with.

The new asphalt is very smooth and it's fun to ride. You can really feel the bike and enjoy this beautiful track - they've done a great job" he concludes.
