Today, July 25th 2019, is a historic date for MV Agusta Motor. An agreement was signed with the Chinese industrial giant, Loncin Motor Co., Ltd.. A long-term strategic agreement that will allow the Italian company to develop a new family of products, obviously with the MV Agusta brand, in the 350- 500 cc displacement range. After all, it is what the market currently demands: small displacements, which allow to keep operating costs low. A forced choice? It could be, but however small these bikes are, they'll always be "Italian", with that appeal that only Schiranna can offer.

Four new bikes in 2021

MV Agusta is keen to stress that the bikes will be entirely designed and engineered in Italy. The industrial phase will take place in partnership with Loncin, a leader in motorcycle production in Asia. We already know that four models will be -. It's easy to hypothesize two naked, a sport, and maybe a small 500 cc street enduro, similar to the Turismo Veloce. The promise is, therefore, a unique design, an unmistakable roar, and typical MV driving dynamics.

An all comprising future

Let's be clear. "Forging ahead" with large displacements is impossible. Schiranna has three engines in its range (675, 800, and 1000 cc). Small, too small, especially since 350-500 cc bikes are what's popular now. And Honda and KTM were forward-thinking in this because they've had "tiny" bikes for several years, for young riders returning riders, or simply for those looking for an inexpensive bike.

However, there's more to it. MV Agusta and Loncin have specified that their collaboration will not be limited to the development of this new family of four products in the 350-500 cc range. MV Agusta forsees to help Loncin enter the premium segment with a high range of 800 cc. MV Agusta, through its CRC research and development center, will work alongside Loncin in the development of a new family of products for VOGE, Loncin's high-end brand. The target is the medium and large displacement market, where Mv Agusta will provide its technological contribution and know-how.

A word from the companies

Yong Gao, President of Loncin Motor Co., Ltd., stated: "The conclusion of the strategic agreement is conducive to Loncin’s and MV Agusta’s joint response to the changes in global market demand and to the coordinated development of both sides. Loncin will use advanced manufacturing resources and Chinese market knowledge to help MV Agusta expand its product line and enhance product competitiveness. MV Agusta’s technology and advanced design experience for high performance motorcycles will support Loncin’s VOGE brand in becoming the market leader of premium motorcycles in China. I am looking forward to our strategic cooperation based on the principles of mutual benefit and success.”

Timur Sardarov, CEO of MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., added: "This strategic alliance is an important step towards consolidating our vision for the future of MV Agusta. Our goal is to reaffirm our leadership in the production of upper-premium motorcycles, while also expanding our client portfolio by offering a broader range of products without compromising our distinctive design and performance. We are looking forward to growing with the right partners and the right products, which guarantees a wider selection for our fans worldwide but always with the MV Agusta DNA."
