It had looked like an ideal opportunity to return to winning ways, so much so that he even scored his first Superpole of the season this morning. Yet in race 1 things went rather differently, with Chaz Davies' race coming to an end after just one lap.

A painful DNF for the Welshman, at the round at which the Aruba rider had dreaming of making a comeback after his less than ideal season start.

“It's a shame - commented Chaz - but these things happen and it's all part of racing. To tell the truth, we don't know exactly what happened with the bike. The only thing we are sure of is that it was an electrical problem, but we're still investigating”.

Once again, as was the case at Buriram, you were the man having to wave the white flag.

“It's true, but these things can happen. The problem I had today had nothing to do with that of Thailand anyway. I'm sorry, because I was fast, but it finished in the worst way”.

Chaz, let's look at the positives. Today you got away from pole.

“I didn't expect to be so strong on the flying lap, but I immediately had good sensations here at Imola. i'm sorry because this could have been the right day for a win”.

Do you think the competitiveness the Panigale is showing depends on the track or have you turned a page?

“This is a one of a kind track that I really like. I think we've taken an important step forward though and I'm sure we have what we need to do well at other tracks too. We're on the right track and need to continue on in the same way”.

It looks like this Ducati doesn't want to give you a break.

“That's not the case, it's not true. Sometimes setbacks happen and today it happened to me”
