MotoGP: Espargaró: in Assen we only missed the mark in the race

Aprilia is still on the hunt for a result worthy of the efforts put forth by the guys in Noale headed up by Romano Albesiano. Assen seemed like the right opportunity after the good qualifiers done by Aleix Espargaró (7th and straight through to Q2), but the wrong tyre choice negated any hopes they may have had.

The Spaniard and his teammate, Redding, will give it another go on the Sachsenring, a track the RS-GP seemed to like last year, with Aleix seventh over the line.

In the last race before the summer break, my goal is to take home a good result - Espargaró says in no uncertain terms - In Assen we were competitive throughout the weekend. The only session we missed the mark on was the race. The Sachsenring is not my favourite track in terms of layout, but we have always done rather well here. Even last year, I finished seventh with an excellent pace.”

Scott is also keen to bring home a satisfying result for the team he knows he will be leaving at the end of the season. The Brit is struggling on the RS-GP and a good race would let him tackle the second half of the season in the best possible way.

“The Sachsenring has a lot of long corners that you go through without braking - not our strong point - but it is also a narrow and twisty track that could help us - he reflected - I am coming from two positive races where I had fun riding. With Aprilia, every track is new for me, so I don't know what to expect, but in terms of mindset, I want to take on every session without too many complications, just thinking about doing as well as possible.”
