The desire to get back on the top step of the rostrum is great and Marc Marquez's pole position only confirms his intention. #93 was fast yesterday, despite issues with the front of his bike, but today it was all smooth sailing. “As for the pole, I played a little dirty”.

Marc did his best to conceal his hand, only to reveal it at the right moment, a plan that paid off.

“Qualifying wasn't easy as I wasn't comfortable with the new tyres, but as they started to wear, things picked up. The conditions were different today, it was windier and the bike was moving around. Qualifying was interesting, we needed to be fast but also smart”.

The progress #93 has made is clear to see.

“Things have been going well right from FP1. The bike wasn't stable though, but this improved step by step. I think one of the reasons I can be fast at this track, where we're not usually particularly quick, is the winglets; it's the first time we've come here with important aerodynamic updates, and they've helped us in terms of stability”.

As for tyres....

“Yesterday I was fast with the hard tyres, but we've changed the set-up and now my pace is similar with the various compounds, we need to decide which is right. It helps that the possible choices are clear-cut, at Mugello that wasn't the case, the hard was softer than the soft, while this time it's all a lot clearer”.

Marc is ready to do battle tomorrow, in what is likely to be a hard-fought race.

“It will be a group race. It's not easy to stay ahead at this track for many laps, we'll have to see what conditions are like. Turn seven is the hardest point because you come in hot but it's windy; you know you have to slow down, but it's also a point that's key for building the lap time”.
