Missing out on the front row by just 0.020 of a second isn't enough to ruin Andrea Dovizioso's day, the rider having regained the confidence that he'd lost due to recent mistakes. The Italian has shown that he can run with the best of the, demonstrating this come qualifying.
“It was a strange session because there was a big group of us together and no one wanted to be out front leading the others. Fortunately I was last in the group and told myself: either everyone will penalise us or I'll make a good lap” he laughs.
It turned out to be the latter, starting from the front row a clear advantage at a narrow track like Assen.
“Yes, I'm pleased. My race pace is quite good, I can say I'm among the fastest”.
Who are your main rivals?
“Marquez is very consistent as well as being fast. Also the two factory Yamahas are competitive but not only them. It's not easy to interpret everyone's potential”.
As Andrea always says, the important thing is to be fast.
“And I am, I only had a problem this morning. The wind picked up, from a different direction, and this affected my riding, but in the afternoon I was back to a good level”.
Even tyre choice doesn't worry him.
“I'm quick on both the softer and the harder solutions, though I'm more inclined towards the latter. The biggest problem will be consumption, but that is true for everyone”.
