If Valentino had a reason to celebrate again in Barcelona with his third podium in a row, the other Yamaha riders were left bogged down in the belly of the standings. Viñales’ 6th place and Zarco’s 7th mirror a difficult situation. Maverick especially is unable to find the reason for his difficulties: “It was a disaster. I don’t understand what happened” he said.
“I had a lot of problems, especially at the start and it seems like I am the only Yamaha rider who has them. I really do not understand what is happening – the Spaniard admits – In the past, even in the other categories, I always did good starts and I had been able to do so today, it would have been another race.”
It did not happen and the results were anything but satisfying.
“When I found myself alone on the track, I was fast and I managed to maintain a pace similar to Lorenzo and Marquez – he points out – We need to continue working and stay focused, keeping our calm.”
After his last podium in Jerez, Johann Zarco is also not collecting much fruit.
“I put on the medium tyre because I thought it could help me today, but that is not how it went. Anyway, I think that even with the soft I would not have been able to maintain a better pace – the Tech3 rider admitted – At the end of the race, it did not go too badly, but I also had a bit of hard luck – episodes that interrupted my pace. Also, in the finale I struggled because it was hard to control the bike. The 7th place is a disappointing result right now, but I think that we are on the right path to understanding where we are going wrong.”
