A win is the only result that truly satisfies Marc Marquez, but the Spaniard flashed a smile after his second place at Montmelò, aware that he achieved the most he could. “I started with a clear idea in mind – he explained – namely to get into the lead as soon as possible, knowing that with the hard tyres I would have to wait to push it to the maximum. Jorge overtook me and I tried to follow him, but after seeing Dovi and many others crash, I decided to settle for twenty points, considering what happened at Mugello.”

Marc reflects on his race and on the tyre choice.

“I struggled a bit with the front and I don’t know if the hard tyre was the right choice, but second place is what came out of practice. I thought that the choice would help me in the finale, but when Jorge had a slight drop, I began to have problems with the rear jumping around that I had never had in practice. Lorenzo has a little more than I did and in these conditions, you can follow him for five laps, but if you do it for 23, you’ll crash sooner or later. I had some warning signals, so I decided to finish the race.”

An important episode for Marc’s race was Dovizioso’s crash: “I was at the limit, but I wanted to follow Jorge to create the gap in front of those following us. However, when I saw his crash and I saw Vale way behind, I decided to manage the gap. The Ducatis were stronger than us today. We tried to recover with the hard, but we were unsuccessful.”

As for the championship, Marc still has several riders under a microscope.

“My main rival is now the second, namely Valentino, who is fast and consistent. Dovizioso has always been very consistent in his career, so two zeroes in four races is not normal. Jorge is fast now, but I am waiting to see him on other tracks, since Mugello and Barcelona are very similar. The Yamahas could also be in the mix, but in any case, I feel good on the bike.”
