MotoGP, Lorenzo: Now I ride the Ducati following my DNA

"The battle for the title? I live in the present, but I would like to have a few more points. Now the D16 is more complete, but on some tracks we'll suffer"

MotoGP: Lorenzo: Now I ride the Ducati following my DNA

Lorenzo is hoping that the win at Mugello is not a flash in the pan and he demonstrated that with actions in Barcelona too, finishing ahead of the rest on the first day of practice. After all, none of his rivals want to make the mistake of underestimating him and Marquez and Rossi are in agreement that he should be counted among those riders who are in the mix for the title.

Considering my current situation, I would like to have a few more points in the standings. For example, I think about those points lost in Qatar because of the problem with the brakes - Jorge reflects - Right now, the MotoGP playing field is very even, where it is very easy to lose points and hard to win three or four races in a row. It isn’t like a few years ago, where it was always the same riders winning and finishing on the podium.

This uncertainty, however, could also favour comeback, if we want to see the glass as half full.

Marquez could have a difficult weekend or make a mistake - he continues - but I live in the present and right now, I cannot think about the battle for the title.”

The present says that he has set the bar in Barcelona.

But it is only Friday - he cautions - Today I was one of the riders with the best pace, if not the absolute best, but more than anything, I had good sensations astride the Desmosedici and that gives me confidence.

Lorenzo rejects the theory that Mugello was the turning point GP. If anything, he sees that win as part of a long process that is now bearing fruit.

I didn’t make any ‘click’ - he stresses - I had already turned a lot of laps at the front in Jerez and also in Le Mans. It was the sign that something could happen. I was fast, but I was missing a piece.”

The by now famous fuel tank.

Yes, that - he states - The new change gave me perhaps 1% more speed, but more than anything, it let me conserve my energy and be consistent down to the last lap.

Now he can, and the question is: can he do it on every track?

Always is a big word - he warns - The Ducati is certainly a more complete bike now, but there will be tracks where we will struggle. For example, I’m thinking about the Sachsenring or Phillip Island. However, I see no reason why we can’t be fast on the other circuits.”

Now that the Jorge-Ducati divorce has begun its countdown, the couple seems to have reached an understanding and learned how to co-exist perfectly.

“I think that it will always be difficult for me to ride the Desmosedici in a completely natural way, but right now I am doing it with a style more similar to the one I used on the Yamaha - he explains - As I always said, I need to go fast following my DNA.”

And that is exactly what he did at Mugello.
