In Austin, none of the Desmosedici machines finished on the podium. The best ‘red’ that crossed the finish line was Andrea Dovizioso’s GP18 – fifth with a gap behind Marquez of more than 13 seconds – and after the Italian’s factory bike, to find another Ducati, you need to scroll down to Tito Rabat’s excellent eighth place with the privateer team Avintia bike.

With Lorenzo eleventh, truly far from the top, only one of the two team Alma Pramac riders managed to get into the top ten. Danilo Petrucci finished the race in twelfth place and Jack Miller finished ninth. The gaps behind the leader, however, are rather significant and the Texan weekend is one to file away at the back of the drawer.

We’ll start with Petrux, who struggled a lot in the race: It was a difficult weekend – Danilo acknowledges – Yesterday we tried to sort it and I thought we had, but today in the race we put on brand new tyres and I was slow. I lost a lot of time at the beginning. It was a Grand Prix where nothing positive happened for me. I was unable to stay in the group where I had hoped to be, nor was I able to finish in the top 10. It’s a pity to have finished behind Rabat, Miller and Lorenzo. I admit that I am very disappointed, but… I hope that this disappointment will help me to be faster in Jerez.”

It was a less than brilliant Grand Prix for Jack Miller too, finishing ninth. However, unlike Petrucci, the Australian had a bit more fun on his comeback ride and in the battle with Rabat: “It was a hard day – Jackass began – Starting from the eighteenth spot on the grid and coming all the way back up to ninth was a rather difficult undertaking. On the first lap I had to brake at the limit on the corners against my adversaries and the bike moved around a lot, but I was able to catch up to Lorenzo and Rabat. Once I had caught them up, I managed the tyres, protecting the position all the way to the end. Rabat challenged me in the battle for eighth, which I just barely lost. Considering the troubled weekend we had, I am rather satisfied with the race position, but we definitely want more.”
