MotoGP: Pedrosa: Tyre choice will be fundamental

Not a particularly eventful day, but one that can be built on. Dani Pedrosa did not flex his muscles in the first qualifiers of the year, but the sixth spot he earned on the grid can be a good starting point for the race. “I am half satisfied. Qualifying is always complicated here – Dani explains – because the times are fast and I have often struggled. However, I am happy about one aspect of the performance today: in FP4 we improved, finding more confidence, but in any case it is still hard to understand given the constant changing of the conditions and the strong wind. The single lap could have been faster, but on this track, seventh place is almost a habit for me (laughing).”

The Spaniard analyses his situation, going into detail from a technical point of view: “We struggle particularly coming out of a few corners, especially on the rear, whereas going into corners I think that we are basically sorted.”

Now it’s time to think about the race and Dani has a clear idea in mind of what to do in order to take home some satisfaction.

“Tomorrow I aim to do a good start and a good first part of the race to then battle as best I can in the group. Win? It would be nice, but it is always complicated here. First of all, we’ll need to make the right tyre choice. On the front I will definitely not mount the soft compound, but to make a specific decision we’ll need to analyse the temperature at the time.”
