At Losail, Jack Miller could have done better than the tenth place time he did in qualifying and he is well aware of that.
The Australian team Ducati Pramac rider had to battle with his rivals, of course, and also against the difficult conditions he found on the track: “We put the right tyre on too late and I didn’t have the confidence I wanted in the soft tyre – Jackass reveals – This was the fastest time we could have done. Despite the wind and dust in the morning, we tried to improve and we were only two tenths worse than yesterday, when the conditions were perfect. It was really dirty out there. I definitely need use some eye drops. It seemed like a battle on the beach.”
To Jack it seems like a wasted chance.
“The bike worked well and so did the tyres. I had to push on my flying lap, improving lap after lap. I went with the used soft tyre on the front and a new medium and I did my best lap. I thought I was in the top 5, not the top 10, but it’s a pity that the others were faster. When I got back to the garage I was disappointed. I looked at the times monitor and realised that the others were crazy fast.”
Crazy fast is right, especially Zarco: “Johann’s time was incredible – he remarked – He destroyed a record that had stood for 10 years. Zarco was exceptional. He really impressed me.”
Thinking about the race tomorrow, Miller is excited but he regains his optimism.
“For the race I feel excited and nervous. I hope I can sleep a few hours tonight. It will be a hard battle. I feel confident and happy with my race pace, especially after the test where we checked on how the bike reacts with the tyres in the long runs. I am happy with my race pace and tomorrow I’ll try to be consistent, trying to stay with the lead group for as long as possible.”
