As well as Maverick Vinales, Qatar has put a smile back on Jorge Lorenzo's face too. The Majorcan led Thursday's session for a while, before finishing in fourth place, less than four tenths from his fellow countryman's M1. There's a ray of light for #99 and the Ducati following the dark clouds of ten days ago in Buriram.

Many things have changed with respect to Thailand. A lot depends on the track of course, as I didn't know the Buriram circuit, and the heat also really tested me. Here I know everything perfectly and was able to be immediately fast”.

One aspect continues to worry the rider though.

unfortuately I suffered at the end of the day, when the temperatures dropped and the humidity rose, I wasn't as competitive as I wanted to be”.

Attention turns back to Buriram, where the Majorcan had a few problems.

I worked hard but wasn't able to achieve what I'd hoped. I also tested a different frame that didn't work. So we need to try and improve ahead of the October race”.

Lorenzo's mind if focused on the present, and the Losail test.

“Here in Qatar I feel we're back to normality. The Ducati is more competitive than last year and this gives me confidence. Of course there are areas in which to improve”.

A final work about the fairing.

“I haven't decided yet. I have a lot of work to do this week and then I'll see. I'm optimistic and am aiming to take another step forward in the coming days”.
