MotoGP, Rins: "I want to fight for the podium in every race in 2018"

MotoGP: Rins: "I want to fight for the podium in every race in 2018"

2017 marked Alex Rins' debut season in the reigning class. Arriving from Moto2, the Spaniard struggled to find the right confidence with the Suzuki at the start of the season, unable to identify the right path to take. On the team's blog, the rider cuts to the chase: “It wasn't an easy year for me. I had to deal with some delicate moments that were hard to digest, especially when you don't really know what's happening and you continue to see new obstacles in front of you”.

As if the injuries he suffered weren't already enough to make it an uphill struggle: “Things started to go wrong right from day two of testing at Valencia. The fractured vertebrae meant I was in pain for several months and couldn't make the best start to the championship. Rins hasn't forgotten what then occurred in Argentina and Texas: “I broke my foot at Rio Hondo before fracturing my wrist in Texas, this really complicated what should have been a dream season for me”.

It's definitely never easy to watch others race while you sit at home: “No-one understands how it is when you're unable to ride the bike - explains the Suzuki rider - not being able to train or being forced to watch the races on TV”.  In Holland Rins returned to the tracks and began to sharpen his weapons ahead of the second part of the championship, achieving fifth place in Japan and fourth at Valencia. Not bad for a rookie: “Luckily I didn't crash again. I think my performance in the final race closed the circle, one that had begun with various problems”.

He is therefore looking to 2018 with optimism and some clear ideas: “I hope to repay the trust the team has put in me. The aim is to fight for the podium in every race, I should be ready. Racing in MotoGP is every rider's dream and I'm proud to do so with a team that has been able to count on champions such as Sheen, Schwantz and Roberts in the past”.
