MotoGP, Marquez: I'm fast but not at the right track

"Phillip Island is not a track where you can understand your progress, we need to improve the electronics". Pedrosa: "a good start"

MotoGP: Marquez: I'm fast but not at the right track

The best time, the best pace, yet Marc Marquez is not fully satisfied with his first day at Phillip Island. Probably, as Valentino states, this is tactical but he also need further confirmation before celebrating.

This isn't the right track to see how the bike runs, last year I was also strong here. It's not the right track to understand whether we're doing better or worse", he comments.

But he is nevertheless leading the way, with a significant margin no less.

“Today was tough, I had a new engine that I've never used at this track and we need to sort the bike - he says - This morning I spent a lot of time in the garage, then this afternoon we found a base for the electronics but it wasn't easy, I must admit. Having done that, we started to focus on set-up”.

Marc's doubts seem to focus around the electronics.

Today's balance is positive, but there are still points to clarify before moving forward - he points out - We are still missing something in terms of electronics, as was the case in Malaysia. I'm quick but there's something I still don't understand, I need further confirmation because this engine works differently. We need a little time, everything else is going well”.

But the engine, according to the technicians, should have characteristics that please both riders.

Yes, it's smoother at low revs and more powerful at high speed… but it's not perfect yet!  - he laughs - We still have work to do”.

PEDROSA:  A STEP FORWARD - All in all, Dani Pedrosa seems satisfied though he agrees with his team-mate on the areas where the Honda still needs improvement.

I think we've taken a step forward with respect to Sepang, the bike responds better generally - his first comment - Of course I hadn't ridden here at Phillip Island for a long while and I needed a little time. But initial sensations have been positive.

Naturally Dani also has the engine available but his work schedule is different.

I didn't work a lot on the engine, mainly on the fork actually, we hope to conclude the electronics tests tomorrow, because we need to find a base” he confirms.

For this reason, he prefers to reserve judgment about the engine.

“We're still trying to understand the positives and how to modify my riding style, this is why we worked on the chassis to improve the front. But we still need to work on the electronics too”.
