The engines roared to life in Jerez at 10 o’clock for the first test session of 2017. Team Milwaukee got a head start on the competition, unveiling the livery that will be on the track this season. At 9:30, outside garage number 13, there was no lack of curious onlookers to admire the Aprilia RSV4-RF’s new clothes. Lorenzo Savadori and Eugene Laverty were on hand for the traditional photo ritual, first in the garage and then on pit lane for the fans.

New team year: the season ahead of the English team could be defined as such after closing out the 2016 experience with BMW along with riders Abraham and Brookes. Now they are restarting with the Manufacturer from Noale and the brand new Laverty-Savadori duo. The satisfaction is plain to see on Shaun Muir’s face: “It’s definitely special to launch this new season – the team owner remarked – A lot of work has been done over the winter, proposing new upgrades. The support we’ve received from Aprilia is a testament to the commitment of the entire team.”

The new bike flaunts the traditional red and black colours on the fairings, whereas white dominates the top fairing. The same shade Savadori chose for his number 32: “After a two-month break I am finally back on my Aprilia – the rider from Emilia Romagna said – I feel really good. I hope the weather will stay good for us for today and tomorrow, we have lots of new things to try and I will make sure I give my best.” Whereas his teammate, Laverty decided to bet on black to highlight his number 50: "It was useful to ride the bike in the November test to get a feel for it – he revealed – now we just need to push to see where we stand.”

Now it will be time to get on the track and race the clock on this first day of tests. Compared with the first tests in November, conditioned by the rain, this time the weather has not betrayed us. In fact, the sun is shining on the Spanish track, so the wet seem to have been averted. Testing will end at 6:00 PM.
