SBK: UK: Rea beats Hamilton in the sports personality of the year contest

Johnny Rea continues to drive the fans wild, almost winning over the entire United Kingdom. Once again this year, the BBC asked viewers to vote for their “Sports Personality of the Year”, a contest aimed at all professional athletes.

The winner of this year's edition was Olympic distance runner Mo Farah, who achieved 83,524 votes, 3000 more than the Kawasaki rider, who scored second place in this special classification. The Northern Irishman may be a little disappointed but he can console himself with the knowledge that he beat a certain Lewis Hamilton. Despite his world title win with Mercedes, the four-time champion finished sixth here, with 20,000 less votes than the Kawasaki rider.

The only bike rider to have ever won "Sports Personality of the Year" was John Surtees in 1959. We have no doubt that Rea will be trying again next year!
