MotoGP: Marquez unbeatable, Zarco ahead of Vinales and Rossi

The second and final day of official MotoGP testing at Valencia, with Marc Marquez stealing the spotlight. One hour before the end of the session he set the best time of the day, a 1’30”033 that no-one was able to replicate. The six-time champion once again demonstrates his superiority, improving by more than a tenth on the best time set yesterday by Maverick Vinales with the prototype of the new RC213-V.

Behind the Honda rider is his team-mate Dani Pedrosa (+0.403). The Spaniard is more than four tenths off the pace though, proving the potential of the #93 rider. HRC couldn't have hoped for more today.

As for Yamaha, Johann Zarco (+0.406) continues to amaze. Despite a crash and having closed 0.003 behind Pedrosa, the Frenchman already seems to be as one with the 2017 M1, even able to put Maverick Vinales (5th, +0.607) and Valentino Rossi (7th +0.691) behind him. Both the factory riders continued with the comparison work, also using the winged fairing again. The gap of six tenths to the front is not to be underestimated though. All three riders will be back on track at Sepang later this morning for a two-day test (27-28 November).

Chasing the top three is Jorge Lorenzo (4th, +0.501), while Andrea Dovizioso (+1.725) finishes back in fifteenth place ahead of Franco Morbidelli. The Ducati man was not looking to set a fast time of course. The same goes for Danilo Petrucci (+1.841), eighteenth ahead of former team-mate Scott Redding, who has moved to Aprilia.

Back to the upper echelons, Cal Crutchlow closes sixth, just 0.014 from the M1 of Vinales. The LCR rider completed the most laps of all, a total of 72, or rather two more than team-mate Nakagami.

Tuesday also brought several crashes. The first to fall was Jack Miller (+0.827), who went on to finish in eighth place ahead of Andrea Iannone. The Italian was back on the Suzuki after missing yesterday's action due to a stomach complaint, and also suffered a crash. As did Pol Espargarò, Takaaki Nakagami and Franco Morbidelli.
