His 2018 kicked off one day late due to stomach problems, but Andrea Iannone was able to start a new chapter in his Suzuki adventure today, with the intention of taking significant steps forward.

“Yesterday I couldn't sleep because of the pain, so I clearly couldn't go out and ride. I'm not yet 100% and still feel weak, I've not got much strength. I'm pleased overall though, our pace proved interesting and surprised me. We were lapping in 31”5 or lower, something not many were able to do today. It's a good starting point for the next tests”.

One new component tested today was the engine.

“Let's say that this new specification is another of the elements that we haven't yet put together, also because we missed yesterday. It's a small step forward anyway; today it was important to get out and understand the sensations. We finished up early as we were suffering with the cold track, something that caused the front to slide around a lot, and also due to my physical condition”.

The Hamamatsu manufacturer is also focusing on braking.

“As we expected, we've improved- confirms #29 -we can confirm we've found something that helps us, our improved constancy and therefore pace is important. The final month of the championship was positive for us, both in terms of Suzuki's work and the atmosphere in the garage”.

The list of new parts to test doesn't end there, and Iannone is ready to roll his sleeves up, starting at next week's Jerez test.

“We have a different frame and engine, which we still need to put together. We'll need to do that at the next year and then, at Sepang, we'll probably test the definitive version of next year's bike. I'm feeling very positive about the future".

His final comments regard team-mate Alex Rins, as the Maniac makes a joke.

“Right now he's lucky, because I'm creating a good bike and he takes it (he laughs). Today for example I carried out some comparisons and have tried to give the best possible feedback, then he receives the package once it's up and working. But that's OK, it's only right; Alex is a very talented rider and that's a good thing because it spurs me on all the more".
