It was a top rider Friday in Valencia. Lorenzo for Ducati, Pedrosa for Honda. While Marquez had to settle for fifth best time in the afternoon because of a crash in the finale, his teammate managed to snag second place at just over a tenth behind the lead, held by the Majorcan.

So there is no lack of confidence on Dani’s face at the end of the first day.

“Today we managed to improve in the second session – he began – even if our minds are already focused on Saturday. We worked on race pace – he recalled – where we saw that Marc and Zarco were very fast. It’s hard to assess the day today, since the riders worked with different tyres.”

If the afternoon is any indication, Dovizioso cannot afford to underestimate the number 26 Spaniard.

One of the best things about this Friday was being strong – Pedrosa pointed out – I want to be fast for myself and also for Marquez and for the entire team.”

Pedrosa then goes back to talking about the tyres.

Today the hard tyre was used by very few riders – he recalled – I think it was a choice at the limit. Since the temperature will rise tomorrow, we’ll use it too.”

The final comment has to do with his teammate’s crash.

“Compared to the beginning of the season, I have better sensations with the Honda – he pointed out – but unfortunately, the bike has not changed that much, because it is still too unstable and moves around a lot. Let’s hope we won’t have these problems in 2018.
