Jorge will start from the second row with the sixth place time: "Tomorrow could be a race like the one at Phillip Island, and we will be battling for the podium"

MotoGP: Lorenzo: Winning will be complicated but not impossible

During the final attack for pole position, Jorge Lorenzo was unable to take full advantage of his Ducati Desmosedici GP, finishing with the sixth best time that guarantees him a spot on the second row of the grid.

The number 99 Ducati rider has a few small difficulties in some of the sections on the Malaysian Sepang circuit: “In Q2 I had some laps that were very similar to the leaders - Jorge explains - but I did not do an explosive lap fast enough to get on the front row and battle for pole position. On the last outing we opted for the soft tyre, but I lost a lot of grip in braking. In any case, I had the speed to be fourth or even third. Nevertheless, I improved my feeling with the bike on this track, especially in the final stage of braking. I think that tomorrow we will have a shot at battling with the lead group.”

Which aerodynamic configuration did you prefer using here at Sepang?

Today I had the chance to lap with the old fairing. Not much changes in terms of speed on this circuit, but I prefer using the new one. It really feels good to me.”

What kind of race do you predict?

“We will all be very tightly packed. The Grand Prix tomorrow will put us to a hard test from a physical point of view, because it is hot and humid here. It could be a race similar to the one on Phillip Island, with 10 riders very close. For me, the favourite is Pedrosa and then it will be Zarco, Valentino and Marquez. And I’ll be in the mix too. It will depend on the tyre choices.”

What will your tyre choice be tomorrow?

There is a big difference between the soft and medium tyres. Tomorrow we’ll have to see what the weather does and check the air and asphalt temperature. Only then will we be able to choose the right tyres for my Desmosedici GP. If the mediums do well in warm up, I’ll choose them for the race.”

Would you like a dry or wet race?

I would prefer to race in the dry because in those conditions the race is safer. Anyway, winning here will be complicated for us, but not impossible. In any case, I think that tomorrow we’ll be able to battle for important positions and to be able to finish on the podium.”
