MotoGP: Viñales: If I perform like this in the wet, the title is lost

The rain and Maverick Viñales do not get along. The relationship seemed to have improved after his 4th place in Misano, but on the first day at Aragón in the wet, the problems were back. Seventeenth both in the morning and in the afternoon, the Spaniard is not underestimating his difficulties. To the contrary, he does not hesitate to be his own worst critic.

If this is our performance in the wet, the title is gone - he does not mince words - The next races are in Japan, Australia and Malaysia, all tracks where it could rain and we must be prepared if that happens.

Not like in Aragón.

It was a frustrating day - Maverick admits - We tried a lot of things, but we were unable to improve. I know what the problem is – we lack traction, but we still haven’t figured out what is causing it, otherwise we would have already solved the problem. Today it was really difficult for me to ride the Yamaha.

If Viñales had seen a glimmer of light in the wet at Misano, in Spain he is right back in the dark.

The tyres are the same, but in Italy there was more water, so they worked differently, plus the layout of the two tracks is very different - he explains - In any case, the fact remains that in these conditions Honda and Ducati are always out front, whereas we need to change our situation.”

But how?

First of all, this was not a wasted day. To the contrary, it was a chance to improve our performance - Maverick continues - Plus, Zarco is in the top positions with a Yamaha, so we can compare his data with ours. It is really strange. In Misano I was fast and he was in difficulty, whereas here it’s as if we traded places.”
