SBK, Ana Carrasco: what I like best is beating the guys

A first, historic win for the little Spaniard with the Kawasaki Ninja: "I know I can win again"

The perfect exit out of the final corner, and Ana Carrasco enters the history books. The Spanish rider, thanks to her win in the Supersport300 at Portimao today, becomes the first woman to win an international motorcycle race

And Ana, it should be noted, didn't win in a dedicated women's category, but beat his rivals - all men - on board the Kawasaki Ninja 300 prepared by team ETG racing: “I'm really happy to have won this race - comments the small but very quick Spaniard - because, in order to do it, we worked really hard; it was tough to do, I really had to fight hard from the first to the last lap, where I came out on top, beating off my rivals' final attacks”. It was clear for those rivals to see - Carrasco is not scared of anyone.

You've also raced in the Moto2 championship, which is tougher, that or the Supersport300?

Both categories are very difficult, those bikes are prototypes and every detail counts; here the bike are similar in terms of performance. In the Supersport300 it's not so easy to break away from the group. I have a great bike and a competitive team and the results are starting to come”.

Ana, who has a few shocking pink details on her Kawasaki, loves to slide her bike into the corners, keeping her elbows high and wide as she grips the Ninja's handlebars: “though I'm not tall, I don't have any problems braking - she explains -and I'm confident through the turns, from entry to exit, I like to be fast and precise through the corners, this is my strength”.

You are now part of history, does this spur you on to win again?

“Of course, the team and I are here and know that we can win races and the title, the bike has proved fast and competitive right from the start of the season and, thanks also to a little luck, we've been able to score our first win of the year. I know I can win again and will do my best to repeat today's result at Portimao”.

Is it more satisfying to beat the girls or the guys?

The important thing for me is to win in the world championship and the best guys race in these international championships. My aim is to win again, because what I like best is beating the male riders”.
