MotoGP, Controversy with Iannone - Marquez: For him it was contact like any other

The Suzuki rider does not lose his composure: "These things happen a thousand times, and in the race he has a lot of contact. I don't have confidence, but we are close to the leaders."

MotoGP: Controversy with Iannone - Marquez: For him it was contact like any other

Young Iannone’s pain continues, but in Misano there seems to be a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. In fact, after a dark morning that ended with 16th place and a crash, the boy from Vasto pulled out his claws in the afternoon, earning a provisional spot in Q2 with the ninth best time. However, despite this, Iannone’s eyes betray anything but satisfaction. “This morning they disqualified one of my laps because I went over the limits on the big corner and I crashed while I was improving – Andrea explains – Otherwise I would have been more or less where I finished in the afternoon, so in the top 10. The biggest problem is braking: I don’t feel the bike slowing down the way I’d like it to and on the last part of the corner I always run the risk of losing the front end and crashing. In general, the bike is not working too badly, so if we are able to improve this aspect, we’ll be able to improve significantly.”

Whether or not it is a positive start is difficult to say, and number 29 himself struggles to make any real predictions about where he stands for the weekend.

“The sensations are not good, since I am lacking confidence, although we have never been a half a second from the top. I think that if I had the right confidence I could really be much faster. Seeing that we are close to the leaders in these conditions makes me complain a bit. I don’t know if it is a positive start or not. The problem that I have is the same one I’ve had since the beginning of the year. I don’t know if that problem will get better working on the setup, but we will certainly try.”

In his analysis, obviously Iannone cannot help but talk about the contact with Marquez during the start simulations.

Marc was doing a start simulation and I was arriving. I heard him put his hand on the throttle and I thought he was starting, so I slowed down gradually without stopping suddenly. Just before he started I touched him, but it is a rather normal thing that has happened a thousand times, and he has a lot of contacts in the race, so I think that one contact at a standstill is nothing.”
