Now there is no more room for mistakes, because the risk is that the lead will get even farther away. Valentino Rossi is well aware of this and at Silverstone he aims to turn the page after his difficulties in the Czech Republic and especially in Austria.

Sunday he was on the track in Misano for a day of tests where the goal was to work in particular on rear tyre wear, the Achilles heel for both the Yamaha riders: “We are heading to Silverstone after the tests that we did three days ago – number 46 reminded – I can’t wait to get onto the track to see whether or not we managed to improve the M1.

The British track is one that the Doctor likes: “This is a fun track that is also demanding at the same time – he explained – There are also a lot of high speed direction changes, so finding the right setup for the bike will be important – he added – especially in braking and on the fast corners. Silverstone is well-suited to my riding style and I want to get back to battling for the podium.”

Maverick Viñales can’t wait for redemption after his bitter weekend on the Red Bull Ring: “This is a special track since I won my first MotoGP race here last year – the Spaniard recalled – at Misano I had good sensations and now, along with the team, I will try to find the right setup for the weekend.”

So, the Yamaha rider’s morale is high and he is beaming confidence: “The track suits my riding style well – he analysed – Silverstone is one of my favourite tracks and I will do everything I can to repeat last year’s success.”
