MotoGP: Iannone: we can't give up right now

Andrea Iannone seems to be stuck in an endless tunnel. The Italian, after crashing in FP4, hoped to do better in Q1, but various problems, technical and otherwise, prevented him from reaching Q2; basically, a disaster as proved by 20th place on tomorrow's grid. “This morning we started out quite well – explains a despondent Iannone – improving and closing close to fifth place. So we thought we could reach Q2”.

But then things began to go wrong.

“We prepped a second bike that I thought would be better, and in the first laps of FP4 I was quick. But then I crashed at turn 9, while I was pushing to find the limit, a stupid crash at the front, but we couldn't sort the bike in time for Q1. Then we had other technical problems, like losing oil, and I couldn't continue. Let's say I haven't had the luckiest of days”.

Perhaps it's better to focus on tomorrow, with an optimistic approach.

“If we'd been able to take steps forward today, I think we could have battled for the top ten tomorrow, but now I don't know. The engineers are working to understand what happened, we've not had reliability issues before”.

It may rain tomorrow at Brno, but that won't be enough to solve the problem.

“I don't think it will change much, and riders generally prefer the dry. We cannot give up – concludes the Maniac - we're aware of the problems and Suzuki is reacting. I came to Brno with a different mentality, or rather one which sees me working hard. I'm pleased we'll have a test on Monday to try the new things Suzuki has brought, though the most important changes will come next year”.
