MotoGP, Marquez: The Ducati fairing? Too much!

The World Champion: "My bike wheelies less, we'll see on Sunday if the Ducati fairing is good or not". Pedrosa: "Dry or wet, I have a good feeling"

MotoGP: Marquez: The Ducati fairing? Too much!

Looking at the times, you may think that the Honda Repsol duo tried to limit the damage today, with Pedrosa seventh and Marquez tenth, but instead, the two Spaniards did some development work on the RC 213V machines, fitted with a new aerodynamic fairing and other solutions involving the frame.

It was the World Champion who explained the differences between the old fairing and the new one: “I liked the one I tried at the last tests - Marc reveals - It felt good and I decided to use it here at Brno too. It works on this track. The bike wheelies less than in previous races and it helps me to ride better.”

Looking at the new Ducati fairing, what did you think?

I thought that it is too much. I just need to worry about how mine works. Whether or not the Ducati faring works well, we’ll only know on Sunday after the race. As for us, Dani used a smaller fairing because with mine he struggled in direction changes. I, on the other hand, did not have any problems.”

You appeared to be at the limit more than once on the dry track…

“I was trying a different setup and a hard front tyre. I knew that I was at the limit in terms of temperature and track conditions, but I did not push recklessly, I knew how much I was pushing. Sunday, whether dry or wet, there will be a lot of riders in the mix for the win. We will need to choose the tyres carefully based on the weather conditions.”

His final thought goes to Angel Nieto: “Angel was an example for Spain and for motorcycle racing in general. He paved the way for many Spanish riders and he was a master for me.

Dani Pedrosa is quite serene after free practice under the sign of development: “I am adapting to the new aerodynamics and I want to do it in the best possible way - Dani reveals - learning and looking for the ideal settings for my bike. We are developing a lot of details and that is part of the game. I have never used the new fairing in a race because I am getting to know it.

Were you also testing changes with the frame today?

“Today we used the base setting and we tested a few details on the wet track to see how they would work and I must say that they felt good. I had a good feeling. My feeling was good in the afternoon on the dry asphalt as it was rubberising too and I hope that tomorrow we are even faster than today.”
