MotoGP, Lorenzo: The new fairing has great potential

Jorge reveals: "We are losing in the straight, but on most of the track it is better. Maybe I will use it Sunday in the race"

MotoGP: Lorenzo: The new fairing has great potential

At Brno, the spotlights were all pointed at Jorge Lorenzo’s garage. The Spaniard waited for the last twelve minutes of FP2 before going onto the track with the new fairing. It may be true that the Majorcan did not improve on his previous time, still not making it into the top ten, but his face betrays a certain confidence.

“It was like the day of my début in Valencia – number 99 recalled with a smile – My compliments to the team, because they worked hard to improve the bike and make it easier, especially on the front and going into turns.”

His results leave little doubt.

“It was a positive impact, despite the little time available – Jorge revealed – We managed to improve in certain areas of the track, although there are still some negative aspects. We are definitely losing in the straight – he pointed out – but I am more confident on most of the track and there is more aerodynamic downforce on the front, so the sensations are better.

The Spaniard even feels up to taking a risk for Sunday.

“I think that if it is a dry race I can use the new fairing – he revealed – Obviously we were not able to test it for very long since there wasn’t much time available. As I already said, the potential is greater than the previous one.”

Some were worried that with this change, Lorenzo would struggle in the direction changes, but instead…

“I did not feel a great difference – he commented – Plus, in the wet this morning I felt very good from the start. At a certain point I stopped, because it was pointless to take risks. With this bike, it is relatively easy to be fast in the rain.”

In the battle for the Championship, Lorenzo could be the one to tip the scales.

It is too soon to think about it since many things can happen –Jorge said – Of course, I would like to see Andrea manage to win the Championship and I will do as much as I can to make sure he does.”

His final comment is on Angel Nieto’s death

Early on in my career I did not have a strong bond with him – he recalled – Then in recent years we were often in contact. He was also at the presentation of my museum in Andorra. I met him when I was ten years old and I was racing with Aprilia at the Cartagena circuit. On that occasion I told him that I wanted to become World Champion. The death of Angel is certainly a great loss for all of us.”
